When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. – Acts 8:14-16 (In other words these new believers in Samaria who were saved and water baptized had not yet been baptized in the Holy Spirit.) Peter and John addressed this situation: “Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.” Then, and only then, were these new Christians fully equipped to be all God called them to be. – The God I Never Knew, by Robert Morris
Have you asked Jesus to baptize you into the Holy Spirit daily? If not, in whose power are you attempting to live the Christian life?
Believers’ Filling of the Holy Spirit
Lord Jesus, I realize my own weakness and inability to walk daily in the fullness of the fruit of the Spirit. Lord, you placed me into the body of Christ when I put my trust in You as my Savior. I now pray that you fill me with your Spirit. It is my desire that your Spirit descend on me so that I may experience power from on high. I want to be able to walk in love right now in the place and time in which you have put me. My need is for Holy Spirit supernatural empowerment to do all that God has called me to do. Amen.
A real friendship with the Holy Spirit can change your life.
Three baptisms: Salvation, when the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ; water baptism, when we are baptized in water after we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior; and Spirit baptism, when Jesus baptizes us with power from on high, the Holy Spirit.
